No Agreement on Mediated Issues

AFGE on Oct. 11 concluded mediated talks with TSA on outstanding issues remaining from contract negotiations with no resolution.

The collective bargaining agreement reached by the parties on August 2, 2012 currently is out for a ratification vote, but AFGE had submitted several unresolved issues for mediation. These issues range from details of the bidding process, representation matters and parking.  The unresolved issues have no effect on the proposed collective bargaining agreement.

TSA management representatives said at the end of the mediation session that they were unable to agree to AFGE’s proposals.

Under the ground rules for negotiations and other applicable rules, AFGE now has the right to determine to send some or all of these issues to an arbitration panel. Under an arbitration ruling won by AFGE earlier this year, the arbitration panel has the power to make a final and binding ruling on the issues submitted.

“AFGE will continue to advocate on behalf of all TSA workers for a strong first contract,” AFGE National President J. David Cox said. “While these issues remain to be resolved, the agreement terms that already have been negotiated represent a huge step forward.”
